Auditory training
Auditory training programs proceed in gradual steps from
very simple tasks like being aware of sounds when it begins, to the recognition
of environmental sounds, and finally to the understanding of speech. Parents
need to talk as much as possible to their child in a normal way. The child’s
progress will be regularly assessed in the audiology clinic periodically and
further guidance provided to the parents. It calls for a lot of patience and
effort on the part of the parents since the progress is slow. Parents should
realize that they are dealing with a handicapped child and hence the child will
not be able to pick up language like a normal child. Hence it is very important
that the parents do not give up on auditory training.
